Congratulations on your acceptance to MIT! We invite you to visit the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science to meet faculty and current graduate students and learn more about the research that is being carried out here. Your visit is also a chance to learn about the campus and the surrounding areas of Cambridge and Boston. Please, direct any questions you have to Liza Ruano-Lucey (lmruano@mit.edu).
If necessary, it is important that you update your contact information (email) in your application. Each newly-admitted applicant will be sent an individual invitation with a unique link to sign up to attend the visit days event. Registration is due on Monday, February 10th. Once registered, you will be able to indicate which faculty you wish to meet and which events you plan to attend.

Thursday, Feb. 27th arrival to MIT Meet! Greet! Eat! ~7:30pm ET - welcome to MIT and to EECS hosted by current PhD graduate students & EECS Graduate Student Association (GSA) |
Friday, Feb. 28th Alarm rings at 7am ET for breakfast at 8am!
~8:45am Welcome to MIT, EECS Leadership ~9:45am Technical Research talks in EE, CS and AID 1-5pm one-on-one faculty and research staff meetings, attend grad classes, visit lab open houses and lab tours 5pm EECS Reception 6:30pm Small Group Dinners with research groups |
Saturday, March 1st a ‘smattering’ of activities
10:30-noon One-on-one meetings with faculty and research staff 12:30-1:30pm The Road to the PhD: the requirements of the degree by Graduate Officer Leslie Kolodziejski Afternoon events will include: tours and housing options, graduate student life panel, student diversity panel, EECS alumni panel, happy hour and fun evening social event |
Some of the activities you will participate in include meeting our faculty and research staff, our current graduate students and many of our administrative staff. You will have a chance to learn about our research activities in EE, in AID and in CS. You will have a chance to hear from our departmental leaders as well as the deans of the School of Engineering and the Schwarzman College of Computing, along with the directors of our research laboratories. We hope to tell you about EECS today, but also where we are headed and how you will be a part of the future of EECS.
The EECS Graduate Officer will provide details of the PhD program and highlight the many ways the department supports our graduate student body. The leaders of our various grad student organizations will share the many activities that you will be invited to and how they work hard to create community. Current graduate students will share with you their PhD experience and talk about living on and off campus, how to have fun in New England and metropolitan Boston. Current students will share with you the ups and downs of grad school in EECS at MIT and will talk about the value of diversity and inclusion, what MIT is like for an international student, or for a student with various backgrounds and identities. And you will also hear from EECS alumni who will expound on their experience and what opportunities they had while a PhD student, and what they are doing now in their careers.
